Natural Reserve System fair is today

Coal Oil Point Reserve includes freshwater wetlands at Devereaux Lagoon.

Coal Oil Point Reserve, part of the University of California Natural Reserve System, includes freshwater wetlands at Devereaux Lagoon.

Join Natural Reserve System (NRS) faculty, staff, students and affiliates at the NRS Fair as they celebrate the system’s 50th anniversary on Aug. 11, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The festivities will take place on Franklin’s fifth-floor patio.

Explore the many facets of the reserves while enjoying music and food (including paella and gelato). Talk to UC graduate students doing research at NRS reserves on topics ranging from the historic and current patterns of California vegetation to the hunter-gatherers on Santa Cruz Island. Discover the long-distance migrations and diving adaptations of elephant seals at Año Nuevo Island Reserve and explore the HOLOS Ecoinformatics Engine, a web portal for specimen information with map layers, weather station streams and other global change biology data. These are among the many presentations at the fair.

If you visit every table at the fair, you’ll be entered in a raffle. First prize is a two-night, three-day trip to Hastings Reserve in Carmel Valley, including a tour of the reserve and a bottle of wine.
