This Thursday: Learn about contemporary archives, security and storage

Are you concerned about how you’re creating, receiving and storing records while you work from home? Do you know what you need to manage and how?

This Thursday, Oct. 1, at 10 a.m., celebrate Electronic Records Day by attending Electronic Records Management – Now, More Than Ever! This hour-long virtual event will feature systemwide experts in archives, records management, privacy and information security. Ask questions and discover new tools to help you manage your records. Register online here. Session descriptions are listed below.

You are making history today!

Beyond newsletters, minutes and reports, history is recorded in your email, texts, webpages, chats and beyond. The University Archives strives to collect and preserve this information for tomorrow’s researchers and historians. Marlayna Christensen will share tips and strategies for managing and preparing your records for the archives.

  • Marlayna Christensen, University Archivist, UC San Diego
Marlayna has worked at UC since 1999 and in her current role since 2016. She partners with campus offices and organizations to collect analog and digital records documenting the achievements, challenges, events and people at UC San Diego — from students to top administrators.

What is electronic records management and what is in it for you?

Members of the UC Records Management Committee will provide insight and resources for navigating the world of electronic records management.

  • Kelley Walker, Information Practices Coordinator and Campus Records Manager, Office of the Campus Counsel, and Interim Chief Administrative Officer, Vice Chancellor’s Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, UC Davis
  • Carolyn Tuft, Assistant Director for Business Intelligence, Real Estate, UCSF
Carolyn promotes information governance best practices to manage one of UCSF’s most valuable assets — information. In her previous role as senior digital project manager, she streamlined digital records adoption to accommodate open-plan workspaces.
  • Laurie Sletten, Records Manager, UCOP
Laurie convenes the UC Records Management Committee, which coordinates ongoing systemwide development and management of policies and procedures that promote sound, efficient and economical records management in alignment with current laws and industry best practices for the university.

Privacy issues of the day

The rapid development of large-scale programs to address the pandemic and changes this has caused to daily life and work makes it more important than ever to carefully consider how personal data is used and protected. Join us to discuss contemporary privacy issues and learn about best practices for program design.

  • Pegah K. Parsi, Campus Privacy Officer, UC San Diego
Pegah manages a portfolio of privacy initiatives related to employees, students, applicants, alumni and research participants.

Protecting our digital resources

Protecting records is fundamental to supporting UC’s mission. With growing threats from cyber-espionage, cyber-crime, hacktivism and insider threats, the UC community must be vigilant in protecting our data assets.

  • David Rusting, Chief Information Security Officer, UCOP
David leads the collaboration, development and implementation of information security strategy and initiatives across the UC system.

I really want to join this webinar; but I have scheduled a time-off tomorrow. Will there be a recording of the webinar and if there will be one, can you forward it to me?

    Thank you so much,
    Pak Ng
