EVENT CANCELED: UC Santa Barbara’s Jane Conoley Nov. 20

Dean and Professor Jane Close Conoley of UC Santa Barbara will speak at UCOP this Wednesday, Nov. 20, 12 to 1 p.m. in Franklin Lobby 1 Conference Room, part of the Women We Admire series sponsored by the President’s Advisory Committee on the Status of Women (PACSW).

Conoley is dean of UC Santa Barbara’s Gevirtz Graduate School of Education and professor of Counseling, Clinical and School Psychology. She also served as interim chancellor at UC Riverside for eight months in 2012–13.

A career educator who began her 45-year career as a teaching assistant in New York City’s Headstart Program in the 1960s, Conoley is now a nationally recognized expert in education and children’s mental health.

Prior to joining UC Santa Barbara in 2006, Conoley served for 10 years as dean of the College of Education and Human Development at Texas A&M University, where she was a professor of educational psychology.

She is also a first-generation college student and has spent much of her professional career in educational psychology, seeking ways to improve access to education for disadvantaged students and promoting their success.

The author or editor of 21 books and more than 100 articles and book chapters, Conoley holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the College of New Rochelle and a Ph.D. in school psychology from the University of Texas at Austin.
