Imagining an Anti-Racist University
Wednesday, November 17, 2021, 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm
The concept of critical race theory has dominated mainstream media in recent months. What does this term really mean, and why has it become so controversial — especially in relation to elementary and secondary education policy? How can institutions like UC work to dismantle white supremacy at every level? Join Dr. Tunette Powell, instructor and director of Equity, Inclusion and Community at the Mirman School at UCLA, for fresh insights on this contemporary hot topic. Dr. Powell will be in conversation with Ghanya Thomas, IT diversity outreach coordinator for Information Technology Services and former co-chair, UCOP Black Staff and Faculty Organization.
This event is part of the Confronting Racism speaker series, organized and cosponsored by Graduate, Undergraduate and Equity Affairs (GUEA) and the Office of Workplace Inclusion and Belonging (OWIB).
