Meet Joanna Trammell, new Program Manager of Culture, Engagement and Diversity

Recognizing the importance of creating a culture that puts employee engagement, service and diversity at the forefront, UCOP leadership has created the new position of Program Manager, Culture, Engagement and Diversity. Joanna Trammell joined the UCOP Operations team in early April to fulfill this new role. She reports directly to Executive Director of Operations Thera Kalmijn.
Building upon what is working well in the organization, Trammell will identify and implement new ways to define and create a culture aligned with UC’s mission and strategic goals. This requires “transparency, inclusion, collaboration, communication and respect,” Trammell said, adding that she is “passionate about creating positive change” and finds fulfillment in creating a workplace culture that values employee engagement, service and diversity.
Trammell will lead the development and execution of a number of UCOP programs including service satisfaction, employee engagement, climate, recognition programs and diversity initiatives. She will be responsible for developing both quick-wins and longer-term strategies to improve UCOP Operations service and UCOP staff engagement, diversity objectives, culture and climate.
Having served at UCOP earlier in her career, Trammell returns to us after working at UC Berkeley since 2003 in various positions at the Haas School of Business, the Chancellor’s Office and most recently Campus Shared Services (CSS). At CSS, she worked to implement service level agreements and build stronger relationships with client units. She also served as the Interim Learning and Development Manager and worked with her team to develop programs for employee engagement.
In her most recent role at CSS, she was the Business Services Manager for the College of Letters and Sciences and Research Enterprise Services. She also participated in Diversity & Inclusion Best Practices Benchmarking meetings where she provided input and insights as to how UC Berkeley was performing on diversity, equity, and inclusion policies and practices.
