Oct. 17 is the Great ShakeOut!
On Thursday, Oct. 17, at 10:17 a.m., UCOP will participate in the Great ShakeOut. This annual event, which originated in Southern California, is an awareness campaign to teach members of the public to drop, cover and hold on in case of an earthquake. See instructions.
To prepare yourself for the Great ShakeOut — and more importantly, a real emergency — take the following actions.
Secure your workplace. Use the Earthquake “Secure Your Space” Inspection Checklist from Risk Services to identify anything that may compromise your safety during an emergency.
Watch and learn. This helpful training video shares what to do before, during and after an earthquake.
Prepare for personal safety. UCOP Risk Services has organized a helpful round-up of emergency resources that you can use to prepare for your safety, and that of your loved ones, during an emergency.
Sign up for UCOPAlert. OP’s off-hours notification system delivers alerts to your home phone, personal cell phone, and/or personal email outside normal business hours about an emergency or situation that affects your workplace or your ability to perform your work.
