Celebrate National Food Day and donate to our local food bank

Help the Alameda County Food Bank stock its shelves and feed locals by donating canned and packaged food.

The UCOP Wellness Program is sponsoring a food drive next week, from Oct. 24 to 28, to benefit the food bank, which serves 49,000 East Bay residents every week.

The food drive coincides with National Food Day, a campaign to encourage Americans to “eat real” and support healthy, affordable food grown in a sustainable and humane way. You can make a commitment to “eat real” for at least a day or preferably longer by eating foods that are healthy, minimally processed and prepared in a sustainable and humane way.  Take the pledge at the UC Eats Real website.

The Alameda County Food Bank is most in need of these items:

  • Canned fruit and vegetables
  • Canned meats and fish
  • Peanut Butter
  • Pasta
  • Beans
  • Rice
  • Canned soup (low-salt)
  • Low-sugar cereal and oatmeal
  • Tomato sauce
  • Powdered milk

Donating is easy. Drop your items off in the donation barrels, which will be available next week in the Franklin Building lobby and in the Kaiser Building lobby and second floor near the first bank of elevators.
