Franklin gets into the spirit for Friday’s Holiday Faire

In some corners of the Franklin Building, it’s evident that the holidays are upon us. All floors are still invited to deck their halls in time for the friendly decorating competition that will accompany UCOP’s 2011 Holiday Faire on Friday, Dec. 9.

Decorations already in place show a range of attitudes toward the holidays, from the 10th floor’s “Winter Wonderland” theme, featuring lighted reindeer, old-fashioned Santas and Karen Vecchi’s menagerie of white teddy bears, to the 5th floor’s less traditional “Disco Christmas” conceptualized by Peter Cataldo.

Some have taken a more individual approach, like Matt Golden whose office door is graced by a beautiful wreath, and Marty Simpson, who has his door wrapped up like a big present. Others are evidently still works in progress, with large cardboard boxes of ornaments and garlands waiting to be hung in time for Friday’s event.

The day of the party, festivities begin with cider and sweets, 8 to 9 a.m. in the Franklin Lobby, served by senior leaders. From 2:30 to 4 p.m., bites of turkey, hors d’oeuvres and sweets will be served up in three locations: in Lobby One and on the fifth and twelfth floors.

Events at Franklin will be accompanied by the holiday harmonies of the UCOP Singers, whose repertoire includes traditional Christmas carols and songs from other nations and faiths.

The Kaiser building 2nd Friday breakfast, hosted by Provost Larry Pitts and Vice President Dwaine Duckett, will also have a special holiday theme.

If you are located in another building, there’s still time to team up with a department or floor at Franklin to take part in the decorating competition. Judging will take place from 10 to 11 a.m. the day of the party, with judges from the senior management group spending a few minutes on each floor. The winner will be featured in Link.

For everyone’s safety, please be sure to follow UCOP’s safety tips for decorating.

The holiday party is funded entirely though donations from UCOP managers to show their sincere appreciation for all that you do. Don’t miss this opportunity to visit with your colleagues and celebrate our collective accomplishments.
