Webinar April 18: IT accessibility for people with disabilities

UC’s Office of Ethics, Compliance and Audit Services (ECAS) invites you to a webinar on IT Accessibility for Managers, Wednesday, April 18, 10:00 to 11:00 a.m.

The webinar, although designed for managers, is open to anyone and does not require preregistration. You can join the conversation online or by dialing 866-740-1260, then entering access code 987-0966#.

“It’s so important for UC managers to understand that our IT systems must be accessible to people with disabilities,” says Yvonne Tevis, ITS chief of staff. “Accessibility increases the audience we can reach.”

The webinar, conducted by leading accessibility experts, includes an overview of applicable laws, including the Americans with Disabilities Act and Sections 504 and 508 of the Rehabilitation Acts, as well as basic principles of web accessibility.

You will also learn about the current efforts to adopt an IT accessibility policy for UC, practical approaches for acquiring and creating new IT assets, and funded systemwide resources available to managers and their staffs.

The session will be presented by Christine Bagwell, associate director of Academic Computing at UCSD and chair of UC’s Electronic Accessibility Leadership Team, and Jared Smith, associate director of WebAIM, a nationally recognized web accessibility organization.

If you would like a copy of the webinar invitation, contact Tim Mulshine, ECAS senior analyst, at tim.mulshine@ucop.edu. If you can’t participate on April 18, the webinar will be archived on the ECAS website for future reference.
