Join UC Walks May 23 for a lunchtime walk at Lake Merritt
UCOP will celebrate UC Walks Day again this year on Wednesday, May 23, with a lunchtime walk at Lake Merritt, giveaways and a raffle. The annual systemwide health and wellness event was established in 2010 to mark National Employee Health and Fitness Day.
Benefits Manager Michael Waldman, who is also customer service manager for the Retirement Administration Service Center, will lead the UCOP pack this year. Walkers will meet at Snow Park on the corner of Harrison and 20th Streets between 11:30 a.m. and 12:15 p.m.
Arrive early to enjoy activity booths, including hula hoops, stretch bands, jump ropes and Preston Manning, M.D., who will present a veggie-chopping demo. You can sign up for raffle prizes, including a UC Walks sweatshirt and several iPods. Water and snacks will be provided.
The walk itself begins at 12:15 p.m. with a 10-minute stretch and will proceed along Lake Merritt, then return to the park at 12:45 p.m. for the raffle drawing.
Participants are also eligible to receive a free T-shirt, courtesy of Kaiser Permanente, while supplies last. If you didn’t sign up yet, extra T-shirts may be available at the walk. If you did sign up in advance, T-shirts can be picked up between 11 a.m. and 12 p.m. on Tuesday, May 22, the day before the walk, as follows:
- Kaiser participants may pick up their shirts in the 5th floor reception area of the Kaiser Building.
- Franklin participants may pick up their shirts in the 5th floor break room in the Franklin Building.
Participants can also earn 50 points toward the StayWell incentive, which provides $100 gift cards for eligible employees and $50 for their spouses or domestic partners. You get 50 points for taking the health assessment itself and another 50 for completing a follow-up program; participating in UC Walks can count as a follow-up program.
