Have a safe holiday: Careful when using your cell phone
Even if you’re running around like crazy this holiday season, don’t forget to be attentive to your surroundings and your actions, especially when you’re using your cell phone in public.
Cell phone thefts are up nationwide, and Oakland City Center is no exception. According to a recent AP report, there have been nearly 1,300 cell phone thefts in Oakland this year.
One recent incident took place on Nov. 28, when a man walking in the 1200 block of Broadway had his cell phone snatched from his hand by a young man riding by on his bicycle. The suspect was apprehended and the victim’s phone was returned to him.
So be careful! Oakland police recommend getting a tracking application on all your electronic devices to assist with investigations should they be stolen or lost. It is also a good idea to store information, including make, model and serial number of your cell phone, in a safe location where it can be easily retrieved in case of theft.
