Michael Treviño to speak for UCOP’s César Chávez celebration

UC Director of Undergraduate Admissions Michael Treviño will take the podium to mark this year’s UCOP celebration of César Chávez Day, Monday, March 25, 12 to 1 p.m. in Franklin Lobby 1 Conference Room.
Treviño will speak about Chávez’s impact on labor and social policy, including the instrumental role women and religion played in his work to organize farm workers and improve working conditions.
As admissions director, Treviño is responsible for ensuring the implementation of systemwide admission policy, for both freshman and transfer applicants to all nine UC undergraduate campuses. He has a key role in monitoring admissions as part of the university’s public mission, reporting outcomes to the regents, the legislature and the public.
He has worked at a variety of public and private universities, including the University of Washington, Boston University, Harvard University, UC Berkeley and UC Hastings College of the Law.
Treviño holds an associate degree from Gavilan Community College, an A.B. in social science and history from UC Berkeley and a master’s degree in higher education leadership and policy studies and J.D. from the University of Washington.
Refreshments will be served following the program, which is sponsored by UCOP’s Latino Staff Association (LaSA).
César Chávez was cofounder and president of the United Farm Workers of America, AFL-CIO. His birthday, March 31, is celebrated in California as a state holiday, and UCOP offices will be closed on Friday, March 29, in honor of the holiday.
