Performance management workshops
Whether you’re an employee preparing for your performance review or a supervisor getting ready to do appraisals for your entire team, UCOP offers workshops that can help. The best place for employees to start is at the Employee Role in Performance Appraisals course, a two-hour session that gives pointers for collaborating with your supervisor, taking an active role in your evaluation and ensuring that you have a professional development plan for the coming year. Two sessions are scheduled:
- Thursday, Aug. 8, 9 to 11 a.m., 1217 Kaiser
- Wednesday, Aug. 14, 1 to 3 p.m., 5320 Franklin
Also scheduled is a workshop that all managers and supervisors are strongly encouraged to take if they have not already done so. The workshops will be particularly useful for new managers and supervisors. One session remains, as follows:
- Conducting Performance Appraisals: Tuesday, Aug. 20, 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., 5320 Franklin
Other workshops
SharePoint Fundamentals: Tuesday, Aug. 13, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., 7107 Franklin
SharePoint 2010 is an intranet tool that facilitates communication, teamwork and collaboration among a group. It provides easy access to discussion boards, calendars, shared documents, surveys and more. This full-day session covers the SharePoint platform, nomenclature, libraries and other features and how to browse around a SharePoint site.
Working with Difficult People, Thursday, Aug. 22, 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., 11326 Franklin
Dealing with difficult people begins with understanding how we behave and affect others. Planning for and approaching challenging people with effective communication tools and techniques can lead to more positive outcomes and help you turn difficult situations into opportunities for growth. You will learn the benefits of confrontation and how to deal with anger, as well as a three-step conflict-resolution model.
Embracing Change, Thursday, Aug. 22, 1 to 4 p.m., 11326 Franklin
In this new half-day workshop, participants learn how to work and cope with change and help those around them. It will give you tools to make change more palatable by understanding people’s hesitation, enlisting the help of others, setting up plans and managing stressors. These steps can also ensure that desired changes are implemented successfully.
Visio: Thursday, Aug. 29, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., 7107 Franklin
Microsoft Visio provides templates for creating advanced diagrams and layouts. This hands-on training focuses on real-world uses for Visio, including pivot diagrams, organization charts, cross-functional flowcharts and format diagrams. Also covered are stencils, scaling and resizing objects, drawing basic shapes, manipulating compound lines and working with text.
