Whether or not you take BART, prepare for possible strike
BART management and two of its labor unions are still in contract negotiations, and BART may go on strike beginning this Friday, Oct. 11.
UCOP employees who take BART to and from work are advised to make contingency plans in preparation for a possible strike. And no matter how you commute to work, a BART strike would have a significant effect on transportation and traffic throughout the Bay Area.
All UCOP employees should discuss with their supervisors possible impacts and options so that UCOP business can continue if a strike does occur. You are encouraged to explore carpooling and other alternative transit arrangements, flexible work schedules on a temporary basis, and/or telecommuting if operationally feasible.
Here are some helpful resources to help you plan alternative transportation and work arrangements:
- Find a rideshare with your UCOP colleagues through the Business and Administrative Service Center’s rideshare website.
- Commuter tips are available by calling 511 and asking for “rideshare” or visiting the website 511 SF Bay to find information about starting a carpool as well as schedules for buses and ferries. The site has links to transit agency sites for more information on modified services.
- Check Casual Car Pool News for locations for picking up casual car pools in San Francisco and the East Bay.
- Sign up for BART labor strike alerts.
- If you are authorized and able to work at home, find out more about how to access your UCOP email remotely with Outlook Web App (OWA). Go to the IT Service Hub, click on Knowledge or Knowledge Base Search and search for OWA.
Please continue to check media reports to get the latest updates about the strike.
