Open Forum: What is your New Year’s resolution?
About half of all American adults say they are at least somewhat likely to make a New Year’s resolution this year. Their top vows: to lose weight (19%), quit smoking (12%) and exercise more (10%). Sound familiar?

At the start of the new year, i like to begin fresh by removing all unwanted food, clothes, and other objects from my home and office. I offer these items to friends or donate them to a charitable organization like Goodwill. I decided to make only ONE resolution this year and to keep it simple: to LISTEN. I resolve to focus on listening to others and to be curious about others’ perspectives and experiences. I hope to learn more about my family, friends and others by giving them the opportunity to truly share their thoughts.
I’m starting small – my resolution is to moisturize more.
My resolution is to learn something new each month. Because I’m excited to get started, I’m focusing on two things this month: how to make lemon marmelade and how to record narration for online learning.
use scraps of paper and paperclips instead of post-its
My goal for 2010 was to write a daily “column” to both practice the craft of writing and to share my perspective with anyone interested in it. I write on topics from politics and curent events to childhood memories and obscure concerns. I haven’t missed a day since January, and I use my Facebook page to host my daily musings in the “Notes” section of my profile, until I move my work to a stand-alone website at a later date.
I generally don’t make new year’s resolutions, however thanks to UCOP’s workfit program I have made and accomplished two mid-year resolutions. I now exercise regularly and I have lost weight. Next year I think my resolution will be to “Keep it up!” Thanks Workfit.
NY Resolutions don’t work, though people do try. Today I resolve to continue working out (when I can). This is all I can resolve safely. I’ve already quit smoking as of February, 2006. I have other unfinished things: novel, book of poems, trying to take my GREs, and house purge. But I can’t resolve those yet!!!
