Oct. 20: OP’s seasonal and H1N1 flu shot clinic
UCOP’s 2010 Fall Flu Shot Clinic is Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2010 from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. in Franklin 10325.
UCOP Risk Services, in partnership with University Health Services, is pleased to offer the Fall Clinic with the combined seasonal and H1N1 vaccination for $25. The clinic is open to all Oakland- and Berkeley-based UCOP employees, including contractors and members of their household over the age of 16.
Staff from UC Berkeley’s University Health Services at Tang Center will be on hand to administer the vaccines on a first come, first-served basis.
This year, in response to the emerging health threat posed by pertussis, commonly referred to as “whooping cough,” the clinic will also offer the adult TDaP vaccine (for tetanus, diphtheria and acellular pertussis) for $60. Please come early – the supply of this vaccine is very limited.
By all accounts, this year’s pertussis outbreak is expected be the worst in the last 55 years. As of July 2010, California Department of Public Health statistics listed the number of reported cases of pertussis at nearly five times higher than the number reported in 2009. Click here to read more.
While healthy adults usually won’t experience much discomfort from pertussis, they can be carriers and spread the illness to infants. Click here for more information on pertussis and recommendations on who should receive the vaccine.
Please make checks payable to University Health Services. As always, a receipt will be provided. Most health insurers will accept it for reimbursement purposes.
