President Yudof issues an open letter to the people of California and the UC community
November 8, 2010
Dear colleague:
This morning I am issuing an open letter to the people of California and to everyone within the UC community about the financial realities we face and the steps I believe are necessary to keep us on course, both in near and long terms.
UC is both a creation of and the catalyst for California’s unique, forward-looking spirit. As such, all Californians must understand that they have a stake in making sure that our premier research campuses, medical centers and national laboratories serve coming generations of Californians as well as they served their predecessors.
These are unprecedented times and we face serious budget challenges. We must act now, make some hard decisions and face the reality of our financial situation. It is also important that everyone understand the context for the decisions we are making to move this university past the current economic crisis and towards a more stable future, and to uphold our commitment to the people of this state.
Please take a moment to read the letter, which is available at http://bit.ly/bsakU2.
With best wishes, I am,
Sincerely yours,
Mark G. Yudof
President
