BSFO sponsors bake sale to support scholarship fund

Home-baked goodies including sweet potato pie, peach cobbler, cupcakes and mini-cheesecakes will be on offer at today’s bake sale, Tuesday, Nov. 8, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Franklin Lobby.

The fundraiser is sponsored by UCOP’s Black Staff and Faculty Organization (BSFO) to support its Scholarship Fund.

“We are now in the process of establishing a work group to determine which students to target and other criteria,” said Reggie Hillmon, coordinator in Education Partnerships and BSFO co-chair. “We’re hoping to raise about $5,000 to support five local African American students who are planning to attend college next fall.”

The bake sale is one of several fundraisers the group has planned for the near future, Hillmon said. Historically, BSFO has held an “oldies but goodies” dance event and other activities to help cover its operating expenses as well as the scholarship fund.

The bake sale will feature homemade desserts donated by BSFO members and others at UCOP. Prices will range from $2 to $3.

BSFO welcomes your support. For more information about how you can join the group or help in other ways, contact Hillmon at reginald.hillmon@ucop.edu or BSFO co-chair Ghanya Thomas at ghanya.thomas@ucop.edu.
