Valentine’s Day goodies that also do good
If you forgot to get Valentine’s Day gifts for the loved ones in your life (or in your office!), don’t worry. UCOP’s Valentine’s Day Supply Station is just what you need.
Sponsored by UCOP Pride (formerly the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgendered, Intersex Association), the station will be open for business Tuesday, Feb. 14, in the Franklin Lobby from 12 to 1:30 p.m. and 4:30 to 5:00 p.m.
They are selling goodie bags that contain a Valentine’s Day card, conversation hearts, chocolates and a cookie for $3 apiece or two for $5. Roses are also available for $3 each or two for $5, or one goodie bag with a rose for $5. (Cash only, please.)
All proceeds will benefit the Lavender Seniors of the East Bay, an organization that offers social support services to improve the quality of life for older LGBT residents of Alameda and Contra Costa counties. Their program includes direct services, outreach, advocacy and education to ensure that LGBT elders are well-prepared emotionally, physically, legally and socially in their later years.
“We’ve been thinking about creating a scholarship fund,” says Brad Niess, cochair of UCOP Pride, “but then we realized that there comes a time on the other side of life where older people are in need of help, too.”
So support the Valentine’s Day Supply Station and do good in more ways than one.
