Volunteer to wrap up OP Staff Assembly book project

Do you like rummaging through bookstores and thumbing through books? Or rolling up your sleeves for some old-fashioned arts and crafts activities? If so, you’ll love donating some time at the library workday, Friday, Nov. 30, from 12 to 5 p.m. in 11326 Franklin.

The OP Staff Assembly (OPSA) has collected 250 books — California Young Reader Medal–nominated titles that were donated over the summer through the OPSA Book Project — that need to be barcoded, covered, catalogued and sorted. The workday will be spent preparing the books for delivery to libraries at participating Oakland Unified Schools some time in December.

“The project has given us a great opportunity to develop a relationship with the Oakland Unified Libraries,” said Ken Feer, past OPSA chair, who spearheaded the book project. “We have a natural affinity with the libraries, and we hope this will translate into a long-term relationship with them.”

So stop by for a little while if you have the time to contribute to this worthwhile effort.

You can also volunteer to help deliver books to one of these participating schools:

  • Greenleaf Elementary
  • International Community School
  • Lafayette Elementary School
  • Martin Luther King Elementary
  • Skyline High School
  • Think College Now
  • Westlake Middle School
