Lactation rooms now open at UCOP Oakland locations

In keeping with UC’s commitment to promote a family-friendly work environment, UCOP now has three renovated and fully equipped lactation rooms at its Oakland locations.

The President’s Advisory Committee on the Status of Women (PACSW) spearheaded the two-year effort to ensure that OP’s three primary locations all had lactation rooms, and funding was provided by UCOP Human Resources. The Family Resource Network and the Building and Administrative Service Center also provided essential support.

Those groups will host a celebration to mark the opening of the rooms on Tuesday, March 25, 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. in Franklin 11326. Executive Vice President Nathan Brostrom and HR Vice President Dwaine Duckett will attend.

All UCOP lactation rooms are equipped with lockable doors, comfortable seating, sinks, refrigerators, hospital-grade breast pumps, microwaves, sanitizing spray, soap and paper towels. Each room has guidelines posted for use. For access to the rooms, contact the Work Management Center at buildingservices@ucop.edu or 510-987-0600.

UCOP also recently established a new parking program that allows expectant mothers to park in specially located spaces in the Franklin building garage.
