Letter of thanks to UCOP staff from President Napolitano
UC President Janet Napolitano wrote a letter of thanks to UCOP staff on Monday, Sept. 29, the occasion of her one-year anniversary as president of the University of California.
Dear UCOP Colleagues,
As I mark my one-year anniversary as President of the University of California, I want to take a few moments to offer my sincere thanks to all of you for the effort, creativity, and dedication that you bring to work every day. I am grateful to each of you for your service to this wonderful University and the great state of California.
When I arrived a year ago I was excited to take over as UC’s new leader. I knew this was one of the world’s greatest educational institutions and I knew brilliant faculty, committed staff, and motivated students were the foundation of the University’s character and worldwide reputation for excellence.
As my first year draws to a close, I now fully appreciate the crucial role that the Office of the President plays in supporting and building UC’s greatness. Thank you for your hard work and dedication.
I asked a lot of you this past year. Projects including the efficiency review and the strategic organization review, to name just two, have created new and in some cases unaccustomed challenges – as well as new opportunities. I believe efforts like these are indispensable if we are to lead the UC system by example and demonstrate to the public that we are responsible custodians of California’s educational and financial resources. You have also played a crucial role in launching the Presidential Initiatives that reflect the scope and potential of UC’s wide-ranging mission, including the Community College Transfer Initiative, the Global Food Initiative, the UC-Mexico Initiative, the Technology Commercialization and Innovation Initiative, and the Sustainability Initiative.
Your embrace of new challenges and your dedication to finding innovative ways to support the University give me confidence that we have put ourselves on a path to achieve further successes as we move into our second year of working together. I’m proud to serve with such public-minded colleagues and I know that together we can help UC be even better than it is today.
Yours very truly,
