UCOP will join the national Take our Daughters and Sons to Work Day in April 2015 and, parent or not, you’re invited to participate!

UCOP’s Family Resource Network and OP Staff Assembly are cosponsoring the event at UCOP’s Franklin building on Thursday, April 23, 2015, where OP staff can bring their children into the office.

Children, ages 8 to 18, are invited to accompany their parents to work that day to engage in a variety of entertaining and educational activities, from mock trials to nutritional cooking demos to an egg drop competition. Local HR will sponsor workshops in resume writing and interviewing skills, and Matthew Leet will take the kids on tours of the Franklin building.

Do you have an idea for a 30-minute activity your department could sponsor? Or are you interested in bringing your child to work that day? Contact Elaine Bulawin at Elaine.Bulawin@ucop.edu or Rebecca Stanek-Rykoff at Rebecca.Stanek-Rykoff@ucop.edu. (Please note that the previously scheduled brown bags have been canceled.)

This OP-wide event is modeled after a similar 2014 event hosted by the Office of the General Counsel (OGC), one of the family-friendly activities that earned OGC the Myra Bradwell Award in September for its success in advancing women in the legal profession.

“Exposing kids to what their parents or mentors do during the workday is important,” said Event Lead Elaine Bulawin. “But showing them the value of their education and helping them discover their own power and future possibilities are key to their success.”

Participating departments are being asked to provide funds to finance their own sponsored activities. A website will be available early next year for parents to register their children in various activities.
