10 Second Bio: David Olson of Benefit Plan Accounting
Title: Director
Department/Unit: Benefit Plan Accounting
Location: Kaiser Center
When I started working at UCOP: April 1988
What I do for OP in five words or less: I oversee the UC Retirement System/Health & Welfare Program financial management and reporting.
The best part about working for OP: Working with colleagues and staff across the many parts of the division.
Something you don’t know about me: I’m in the Huey Lewis & The News MTV music video, “I Want a New Drug.” You can find me at 01:17 posing as a commuting businessman reading a newspaper with the headline “One That Won’t Keep Me Up All Night.” My then brother-in-law, David Rathod, directed the video and asked if I would like to be an extra and I couldn’t decline. I still have the newspaper and it is signed by Huey Lewis with the note “Go spread the News!”
One weird fact about the town I grew up in: I was an Army brat as my father was a career military officer frequently posted around the U.S., Japan and Germany. In the mid-60’s, we lived at Fort Mason in SF in the northernmost property with a direct view of Alcatraz. At night the lighthouse would shine in my bedroom.
If I could have any job in the world (besides the one I have now), I would be: I’d like Kermit Lynch’s job at Kermit Lynch Wine Merchant.
