Join other UCOP staff at the Oakland Running Festival on March 19-20
All UCOP staff, as well as their friends and family, are invited to participate as UCOP team members in the Oakland Running Festival, which takes place the weekend of March 19-20. Now in its seventh year, the festival features a 5K, half-marathon, marathon and a marathon-relay through downtown Oakland. All races take place on Sunday, March 20.
The UCOP team is seeking runners for all distances. The marathon-relay requires four runners, with divisions for men, women and coed teams. By entering a special discount code when registering, UCOP runners will receive a discount on the race entry fees, which range from $40 to $250 depending on the distance. If you would like to participate as a runner, have questions or would like the discount code to register as a UCOP runner, contact Veronica Cummings at veronica.cummings@ucop.edu.
You can register through the festival website, but don’t register until you have the code, because you can’t apply the discount after you register.
This year the festival organizers have introduced a new event, the Erdinger Happy Hour, to be held on Friday, March 18 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Oakland Marriott City Center. This special happy hour is open to the public and free of charge, but most importantly, it is a way for people who work in downtown Oakland but live outside the area to pick up their bibs and shirts, and mingle with other runners while checking out Oakland Running Festival merchandise. Runners will also have the chance to register for the race if they have not done so already.
On Saturday, March 19, the Kaiser Permanente Health and Fitness Expo will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Oakland Marriott City Center. At this event, runners can pick up their race packets and meet vendors from the fitness, running and health care industries.
