10-Second Bio: Mimi Chin
Title: Space Manager
Department/Unit: BASC
Location: Franklin building
When I started working at UCOP: December 1, 2016
What I do for OP in five words or less: Workspace planning, design, modifications and relocations.
The best part about working for OP: What I missed the most about leaving UC Berkeley is the people. And I believe the best part of UCOP will also be the people. There are so many staff who are dedicated, smart and interesting. I am fortunate to have a job that allows me to interact with so many different people.
Something you don’t know about me: My most unusual experience is going into 10-week early preterm labor requiring that I stay in bed 24/7 at Alta Bates hospital for five weeks. Instead of giving birth to a three-pound baby, I gave birth to a five-week premature, five-pound, 11 ounce healthy boy. My husband would get close to my tummy and scold Kyle: “Stay in your womb!” Kyle is now at Cal Poly SLO studying software engineering and doing great.
One weird fact about the town I grew up in: There is nothing weird about Oakland. I guess it is weird that Oakland is linked with terrible things like crime while their assets are overlooked. I think that Oakland’s climate is very nice and great if you love to garden.
If I could have any job in the world (besides the one I have now), I would be: I would have my own interior design firm with a specialization in designing small commercial projects.
