Show your #FirstGen pride and learn how UC is helping first-generation students

UC Santa Cruz faculty showing off their #FirstGen pride

Celebrate UC’s community of first-generation college graduates and learn about an innovative systemwide effort to connect current first-generation students to role models who have walked in their shoes.

This fall, the UC system formally launched a coordinated effort across all 10 campuses to help ease the transition to college for first-generation students by connecting them with faculty mentors who themselves were first-generation college grads.

More than 900 faculty members have signed on, donning T-shirts and buttons to identify themselves to students and joining alumni, staff and students to share their stories online and in social media. UC also launched a website with first-gen stories and resources.

Now UC is working to expand the effort to include all members of the UC community who were the first in their family to go to college — including those at OP.

All UCOP staff is invited to enjoy refreshments while learning about this effort via a brief presentation. And if you were a college trailblazer in your family, pick up a T-shirt to show your #FirstGen pride!

Date: Tuesday, Oct. 31
Time: 2 to 3 p.m.
Location: Franklin Lobby 1

I’m so glad this has made its way to UCOP! As a first gen college graduate, I would like to support our UC students who are facing this new, challenging experience.
