Global Entry Access enrollment event at Franklin building

Do you travel internationally? Do you want to expedite your re-entry process when returning home? Then you may wish to sign up for Global Entry Access.

To apply for this program in the Bay Area, normally you must go to San Francisco International airport. For your convenience, if enough UCOP staff members express interest in applying, the BRC Travel and Entertainment Team will host a Global Entry Access Mobile Enrollment event at the Franklin building during the weeks of October 14 and October 21, 2019.

What is Global Entry?

Global Entry is a U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) program that allows expedited clearance upon arrival in the U.S. for pre-approved, low-risk travelers. Members simply proceed to Global Entry kiosks, present their machine-readable passport or U.S. permanent resident card, place their fingerprints on the scanner for verification and complete a customs declaration. The kiosk issues the traveler a transaction receipt and directs the traveler to baggage claim and the exit. Unlike the TSA Pre-Check program, Global Entry covers international as well as domestic travel.

In addition, Global Entry members are eligible to participate in TSA Precheck (for domestic travel in the U.S.) and will receive expedited entry benefits in many foreign countries.

Application process

  • Conditional approval (online application) is required and must be submitted at least eight weeks prior to the mobile enrollment date held at the Franklin building
  • You must pay a one-time application fee of $100 (this is your only fee)
  • Each interview is approximately 15 minutes
  • Access is for both domestic and international travel
  • Approved Global Entry access is granted for five years

When/if this event is scheduled at UCOP, more detailed information on the application and interview process will be sent out to those who indicated interest by completing the linked poll.

More information about Global Entry can be found on the CBP website.
