About NCSAM
October 2019 is the 16th annual NCSAM, an effort to increase cyber security awareness and prevent online security problems. NCSAM is spearheaded by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the National Cyber Security Alliance (NCSA).
In 2009, President Napolitano, then secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, launched NCSAM at an event in Washington, D.C. — becoming the highest-ranking government official to participate in the month’s activities. Since then, administration officials from DHS, the White House and other agencies have regularly participated in events across the United States.
We invite you to participate and become actively involved in National Cyber Security Awareness Month: Own It. Secure It. Protect It.
Become a cyber champion
As our work and home lives become more and more digitally connected, we must all become “cyber champions” by doing our part to keep our online lives, at work and home, safe and secure. We all have a role in securing our part of cyberspace.
When we use the Internet safely, we make it more secure for ourselves and everyone else. If we each work to champion stronger security practices, raise community awareness and create and participate in cyber security educational programs, together we can become a digital society that is more resistant to attacks. This is what National Cyber Security Awareness Month is all about!
