Throughout October and November, colleagues from throughout the UC system contributed to Parent Prep, a resource to help parents and guardians in the UC community better understand their role in supporting their students in preparing for and applying to UC — and throughout their UC journey.

Nearly 400 people from all 10 campuses registered to participate in the three-part webinar series, with an additional 587 views after the live sessions. The courses reached a wide range of UC employees, from those who hold graduate degrees to those whose children will be first in their family to pursue higher education.

The Parent Prep team is incredibly appreciative of campus and systemwide leaders in admissions and academic preparation, as well as parent ambassadors from UC family programs, who lent their expertise to the series.

In addition to the webinars, the team created companion guides to help families explore, plan for and make the transition to UC. Each guide includes information and resources gathered from throughout the university system.

“I really appreciate this informative webinar series,” wrote one survey respondent. “The personal anecdotes are helpful for anticipating challenges as my child embarks on the next step in her education.”

Another participant noted that the webinars are “a good ‘primer’ for parents beginning the UC application process,” with “especially helpful information on the California Community College transfer process.”
