Join President Napolitano at a virtual Fulbright Legacy event on July 2
This Thursday, July 2, at 9 a.m. PT, President Janet Napolitano will lead a virtual conversation on the impact and value of higher education, titled “A Future in Question: Higher Education and the Public Good.”
The global discussion, hosted by the US-UK Fulbright Commission, will explore an array of topics, such as universities’ role in tackling the world’s most immediate challenges, including COVID-19. The conversation will also examine newly released international survey data on attitudes toward higher education, conducted by market research firm IPSOS in conjunction with this Fulbright event.
The US-UK Fulbright Commission selected President Napolitano as the 2020 Fulbright Legacy Lecturer, a distinction given each year to a global leader and usually accompanied by a lecture series in the United Kingdom. She was chosen for this honor in recognition of her distinguished 25-year career in public service, including her leadership at the helm of the world’s premier public research university and her tenure as the U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security from 2009 to 2013.
Due to COVID-19, this year’s event will take place as a virtual conversation. It will feature:
- Moderator: Mukul Devichand, Executive Editor, BBC; Fulbright alumnus
- Honoree: Janet Napolitano, President, University of California
- Panelists:
- Ed Byrne, President and Principal, King’s College London
- Peter Mathieson, Principal and Vice Chancellor, University of Edinburgh
- Irene Tracey, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Oxford University; Warden of Merton College, Oxford.
This event is limited to 10,000 participants. Register now to reserve your place!
About the Fulbright Commission
The US-UK Fulbright Commission fosters intercultural understanding between the USA and the UK through educational exchange. Since the Commission was founded by diplomatic treaty in 1948, it has enabled more than 23,000 British and American citizens to study, research or teach at universities on either side of the Atlantic – developing relationships, knowledge, and leadership in support of the long-term interests of the United States and the United Kingdom. In the 21st century, Fulbrighters work to address major global challenges, from energy sustainability and economic development to public health and food security. As part of the EducationUSA network, the Commission also offers British students free, accurate, and comprehensive information about opportunities to study at accredited universities in the USA, as well as delivering the Sutton Trust US Programme for low-income UK students to explore US higher education.
