PACSW welcomes Lina Mendez, Ph.D., champion of student success
Women’s History Month is here! To celebrate, the President’s Advisory Committee on the Status of Women (PACSW) has planned new events in its popular Women We Admire Series.
On Monday, March 8, they will welcome Lina Mendez, Ph.D., associate director of the Center for Chicanx and Latinx Academic Student Success at UC Davis.
Lina Mendez is a first-generation Latina who is passionate about teaching and mentoring. In 1999, she became a Gates Millennium Scholar, which enabled her to attend Harvard for her master’s degree and later UC Davis for her doctorate. She has worked at UC Davis since 2003.
Lina has committed her career to opening doors for students — the next generation of professionals. Her work revolves around building bridges through meaningful partnerships. Because of her lived experiences, Lina sees her work through a social-justice lens. This allows her to build rapport and trust.
Lina has held leadership roles in the Latinx Staff and Faculty Association, the Staff Diversity Administrative Advisory Committee and the UC Davis Chicanx Latinx Alumni Association. In each of these roles, she has focused on fostering a sense of belonging.
