Shout-Out for Alex Santos and Beth Kellman

Günter Waibel, associate vice provost and executive director, California Digital Library (CDL) and Danielle Watters Westbrook, systemwide library planning analyst, CDL, give a Shout-Out to Alex Santos and Beth Kellman of Event Services for their work on the 15th Berlin Open Access Conference (B15), co-hosted by UC and Germany’s Open Access 2020 Initiative.

“B15 engaged attendees from 40+ nations in meaningful discussions around the challenges and opportunities surrounding open, sustainable and equitable scholarly publishing,” says Danielle. “Alex and Beth’s expertise in events and virtual platforms were integral to B15’s success. They are an indefatigable team — talented, generous and a delight to work with!”

Have Something To Say ?

I second that! Alex is fabulous (I have not had the pleasure of working with Beth yet). Alex has been the event manager for the UC Benefits Professionals Symposium, a training event for hundreds of UC benefits staff systemwide held each fall, for the past three years. He helped us make the transition from an in-person to a virtual event due to the pandemic. He is detail-oriented, thorough, organized, politically savvy and sensitive to stakeholders’ and participants’ needs. Best of all, he is a pleasure to work with and has an unfailingly positive attitude.
