Box Fundamentals
Feb. 1, 11 a.m. – 12 p.m.
This course will give you an overview of Box.com, the cloud-based service that provides secure file storage and file sharing at UCOP. Learn how to use Box to collaborate with people in and outside of UCOP. Plus, discover file comments, folder permissions, shared links and other tools to help you get the most out of Box. IT administrators will review the platform’s best features, then answer questions.

Intro to Data Analysis
Feb. 9 and Feb. 16, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Microsoft Excel includes several tools that allow one to analyze large amounts of data. By learning how to use these tools, you can change the way you do business. Making sense of your data is essential in making key decisions. This course will teach you how to the tools built into Excel to mine answers hidden in your data records and unlock the analysis power.

Collaborative Tools for Virtual Meetings
Feb. 21, 1 – 2 p.m.
Learn and try different tools and techniques to make virtual and hybrid meetings more engaging and collaborative. Come with an open mind and ready to learn new internet-based tools!

Managing Implicit Bias: A Conversation
Feb. 2, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Have you completed UC Managing Implicit Bias, a six-course online training series designed to increase awareness of implicit bias and reduce its impact at the university? Join colleagues for a follow-up conversation. Together, we will discuss challenges and strategies for managing implicit bias. You’ll walk away with a greater understanding of your own implicit biases and your ability to promote equity, diversity and inclusion in all aspects of your life.

The Science of Managing Stress
Feb. 3, 11 a.m. – 12 p.m. (PT)
Job stress, especially as we are slowly returning to the office, can feel overwhelming. Learn about the science of the stress cycle, how to keep perspective and a variety of strategies that promote well-being. This class has been rated 4.9/5 by past participants.

3Practice Circle session: This is what I lost and discovered during COVID
Feb. 21, 2:30 – 4 p.m. (On-site in Oakland)
UCOP Human Resources and the Ombuds Office are holding 3Practice Circle sessions to facilitate dialogue between colleagues and help us connect as a community. A 3Practice Circle isn’t a debate, discussion or therapy group; it’s a safe space for clarity and understanding — with no obligation to agree — and an opportunity to exercise your listening and communication skills. Each session focuses on one framing question or concept. This session will focus on the theme of “This is what I lost and discovered during COVID.”

Communication in the Workplace
Feb. 22, 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
Led by popular instructor Raj Kapur, this workshop delivers tools and techniques to enhance your professional presence and emotional intelligence. Learn verbal and non-verbal communication techniques to facilitate effective engagement and make a positive professional impact.

Basic Safety Awareness
Feb. 23, 1:15 – 2 p.m.
Melissa Collins, program manager for security, risk and resilience, will facilitate this 30-minute live virtual class that will provide basic safety tips to help employees feel informed, alert and safe as they travel to and from the workplace. Extra time will be allotted for questions and feedback. Melissa joined UCOP after serving 20 years with the UC San Diego Police Department, retiring as a lieutenant, and is a safety expert.

People managers

GROWing your Check-in Conversations for Managers
Feb. 23, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.
In this two-hour virtual live workshop, managers will have an opportunity to practice using the GROW framework in STEP check-ins and will share tips and strategies for providing feedback. This is part of the three-year training plan designed by the Performance Appraisal workgroup made up of colleagues from across UCOP.

People Leader Forum: Leaves and Accommodations
Feb. 10, 1 – 2 p.m.
The People Leaders Forum is a monthly opportunity for people managers to connect with one another to develop leadership skills, build community, share best practices, swap strategies for navigating current challenges and learn to better support themselves and their teams. This month, we’ll focus on navigating employee leaves and accommodations.

New employees

New Hire IT Orientation
Feb. 7, 9:30 – 10:30 a.m.
Designed for new employees, this IT orientation will help you get started with your UCOP work station. Topics covered include using Outlook email and calendaring, Zoom, Box, Jabber phone, document storage, wireless networks, printing and getting help from the Service Desk.

New Employee Orientation
Feb. 14, 9:30 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Starting a new job or at new UC location can be daunting. This orientation session is designed to facilitate your smooth transition to UCOP. Topics include UC and its history, UCOP overview, employee tools and resources, safety and compliance.
