Wednesday: PACSW welcomes reproductive justice expert Michele Bratcher Goodwin

Join the President’s Advisory Committee on the Status of Women (PACSW) in celebrating Women’s History Month by attending the next installation of the popular Women We Admire speaker series!

On March 29, from 12 – 1 p.m. (PT), PACSW will welcome Michele Bratcher Goodwin, S.J.D., chancellor’s professor and founding director of the Center for Biotechnology and Global Health Policy at UC Irvine. In 2020-21, she received the Distinguished Senior Faculty Award for Research — the first law professor at UC Irvine to receive this award.

Professor Goodwin has won national awards for excellence in scholarship, outstanding teaching and committed community service. She is the 2022 recipient of the American Bar Association’s Margaret Brent Award as well as the 2022 Trailblazer Award from the Black Women Lawyers Association of Los Angeles. She also received the Women of Courage Award from the National Organization of Women and the Victim Rights Law Center’s 2022 Leadership Award.

Professor Goodwin is a national expert in reproductive justice. Her research, conducted in Asia, Africa, Europe and North America, focuses on human trafficking, including for marriage, sex, organs and other biologics. She is a sought-after public commentator, particularly since the Supreme Court’s Dobbs decision. Her publications include six books and over 100 articles, essays, book chapters and commentaries.

PACSW examines issues regarding the status of women at UCOP and analyzes existing policies, procedures and programs that affect those issues. We advance an agenda to improve the climate and opportunities for women at UCOP, identify and support model programs or activities, and recommend to the President changes that will afford women equal and fair access.
