Build connections: It’s EPIC Week!

It’s our first week in UCOP’s Future of Work Phase 2 and UCOP employee resource groups (ERGs) and leadership have planned a variety of fun activities for employees to reconnect with one another and explore our workplace culture!

EPIC — equity, participation, inclusion and community — Week takes place Monday through Friday, with in-person and virtual events that will provide all staff with opportunities to have fun, reconnect with our community and learn how to become more involved at UCOP. On Tuesday and Wednesday, UCOP leadership has planned Community and Connection events in Oakland with networking opportunities and treats. Read on for the details and mark your calendar!

Note that Riverside, Sacramento and UCDC leadership will contact staff at those locations to share details about local events.

Tuesday, April 4

EPIC Week: APISA and BSFO “Hidden Figures” Film Screening

Join the Asian Pacific Islander Staff Association and Black Staff and Faculty Organization for an afternoon movie session featuring “Hidden Figures,” a film about three female African-American mathematicians who worked at NASA during the space race. The movie, which is based on the 2016 non-fiction book of the same name by Margot Lee Shetterly, stars Octavia Spencer, Janelle Monáe and Taraji P. Henson.

Wednesday, April 5

EPIC Week: Coffee and Candy Land

Join colleagues for board games, coffee and breakfast pastries.

EPIC Week: APISA “Turning Red” Film Screening and Discussion
1 – 3 p.m. | Franklin 5305 & https://ucop.zoom.us/j/93663320977?from=addon
The Asian Pacific Islander Staff Association will show the animated film, “Turning Red,” followed by a discussion. Starring Rosalie Chiang and Sandra Oh, this movie is a coming-of-age story about a 13-year-old who suddenly “poofs” into a giant red panda when she gets too excited, as well as her relationship with her overbearing mother.  Join your friends for a movie and chat!

Community and Connection Event: ERG Employee Appreciation Dessert Social and Involvement Fair
2 – 4 p.m. | Oakland, Broadway Conference Center
Enjoy complimentary afternoon refreshments while connecting with your peers and learning how to get more involved at UCOP! Learn more about Community and Connection events.

EPIC Week: Virtual Karaoke

Have an urge to churn out your favorite tune? Ever wondered how “Love Shack” can be sung virtually? Come join us and learn! Instructions are easy to follow, and we won’t record (unless you ask us to).

EPIC Week: APISA and NAIPISA “Te Ata” Film Screening

Come join the Native American, Indigenous and Pacific Islander Staff Association (with support from APISA) for a virtual watch party of “Te Ata,” a movie about Mary Thompson Fisher, a woman who traversed cultural barriers to become one of the greatest Native American performers of all time. This film stars Q’Orianka Kilcher, Graham Greene and Gil Birmingham.

Friday, April 7

EPIC Week: Virtual Bingo — registration required

Have you ever seen the monthly staff assembly virtual bingo and wondered what it’s about? Come join an exclusive virtual session (complete with prizes) offered only to UCOP employees before lunch! The session will be hosted by UC Riverside Staff Assembly Director of Finance Penni Ebina, and co-hosted by Council of UC Staff Assemblies Chair Dennis McIver.
