LaSA will welcome UC Irvine Dean Frances Conteras and “Encanto” producer Yvett Merino

The UCOP Latinx Staff Association (LaSA) is continuing its celebrations of Hispanic Heritage Month with two upcoming events!

LaSA Charla de la Tarde: UC Irvine Dean of Education Frances Contreras, Ph.D.

UC Irvine Dean of Education Frances Contreras, Ph.D.

On Thursday, October 12, from 12:10 – 1 p.m. (PT), join us for a Charla de la Tarde — afternoon chat — featuring UC Irvine Dean of Education Frances Contreras, Ph.D. Dr. Conteras will provide an overview of Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs) and their importance to UC and the state of California. She will also provide an update on ongoing efforts at UC Irvine, which has achieved HSI designation, toward serving Hispanic students and the community.

Dr. Contreras’ research focuses on issues of equity and access for underrepresented students in the education pipeline and the role of public policy in ensuring student equity across a P-20 continuum. She is a first-generation college student and professor, as well as the first Chicana/Latina dean to lead a school of education in the UC system. She has been honored as an “Emerging Scholar” and the “Top 25 to Watch” among academics in the U.S. by Diverse Magazine.
