Sign up for Oakland building evacuation training
Employee safety is one of UCOP’s top priorities. We are committed to providing you with the resources and support needed to navigate emergencies with confidence, as we all need to work together to help keep our work environment safe.
The UCOP Employee Safety Coordinator (ESC) program — formerly known as the floor warden program — is an integral part of our Oakland workplace safety plan. Through this program, we train staff volunteers to respond and provide leadership to colleagues during emergency drills and real situations, ensuring organized building evacuations and response. Additionally, ESC volunteers act as program ambassadors, helping share new safety information, answer questions about the program, and collect feedback from staff for program improvements.
During our new era of hybrid work, with anchor days and varied on-site schedules, staffing the ESC program has become challenging. In response, the Building Administrative Service Center (BASC) is working to develop an online emergency training course for all staff that will launch this fall.
To keep Oakland employees informed about safety procedures in the meantime, BASC is hosting in-person and virtual emergency evacuation training sessions in April for ESCs and all interested colleagues. These sessions will equip attendees with the knowledge to confidently and efficiently navigate emergency evacuations.
