Save the date for APISA’s Diwali celebration: Nov. 17
On Tuesday, Nov. 17, from 1–3 p.m. (PT), all UCOP employees are invited to join the Asian Pacific Islander Staff Association (APISA) for its annual Diwali celebration.
The event will include a talk about Diwali’s significance, staff sharing their stories, a diya lighting ceremony, an Indian dance performance and a tabla drumming session. Indian treats, music and conversation will round out the celebration.
Diwali, also known as Deepavali, means “row of lights” in Sanskrit. Often called the festival of lights, Diwali is celebrated by Hindus around the world and by people in other communities. Its date follows the Hindu lunar calendar and typically falls in October or November, around the new moon. The celebration is associated with the triumph of light over darkness, good over evil and knowledge over ignorance.
Colleagues are encouraged to wear South Asian or Indian attire.
No registration is required for in-person attendees; we will announce a virtual experience closer to the event date.
