APISA kicks off Pilipinx American History Month
Mabuhay! Join the UCOP Asian Pacific Islander Staff Association (APISA) in kicking off Pilipinx American History Month with a festive Oakland celebration on Sept. 30.
Every October, we honor the rich heritage, resilience and enduring contributions of the Pilipinx American community. Pilipinx American History Month marks a historic milestone — the arrival of the first recorded Pilipinx individuals in what is now the United States on October 18, 1597. Since then, the Pilipinx American population has grown to over 4.1 million, making it the second-largest Asian American group in the nation.
From activism to academia, the arts to public service, Pilipinx Americans have helped shape our society and continue to enrich the fabric of the UC system with their vibrant culture, leadership and innovation.
