The Science of Managing Stress
One of our most popular well-being courses, The Science of Managing Stress has been refreshed with updated research from Dr. Elissa Epel, PhD Professor, UCSF and Emily Nagoski, PHD and Amelia Nagoski, DMA
Stress is an inevitable part of life—and while some stress is helpful, chronic stress can impact us mentally, physically, and even at a cellular level. In this engaging and research-informed session, participants explore the latest findings on stress, resilience, and recovery, and learn practical tools to manage stress more effectively in today’s complex work environment. Drawing on current research in stress science and mindfulness, the course helps participants understand how the stress cycle works, why we get stuck in it, and how to “complete the cycle” so the body can recover. Participants will explore actionable strategies across three areas:
- Mind – Reframing thoughts, building uncertainty tolerance, practicing gratitude and self-compassion
- Body – Breathing techniques, restorative rest, movement, and training for resilience
- Scenery – Modifying physical and social environments to reduce stress cues and support well-being
Newly added activities provide more opportunities for reflection, discussion, and real-time practice, ensuring participants leave with personalized strategies they can integrate immediately.
This course reinforces that stress management is not a luxury — it is an essential life skill. Participants leave with practical tools, increased self-awareness, and a clear commitment to sustainable practices that support resilience at work and beyond.
