President Milliken announces UCOP’s salary program for the coming year
President Milliken sent the following message to all UCOP employees on Monday, June 29, 2026:
Dear colleagues,
Despite a challenging budget environment for California and the pressures on higher education from Washington, I am pleased to share that the University of California will provide a 4% salary increase for eligible policy-covered academic appointees and staff across the university.
In addition to this increase, the UC Office of the President (UCOP), will launch a program for equity adjustments and reclassifications/promotions. Additional details about the UCOP program, including eligibility and timing, will be shared in the coming months. Any approved salary changes under this specific program are expected to take effect on January 1, 2027.
We recognize the rising costs that employees face, and we have worked to balance those needs with the significant fiscal challenges confronting UC. This salary program reflects our appreciation for the dedication and contributions of UC employees and our commitment to supporting our talented workforce.
For academic personnel, salary scales will increase through a 4% general range adjustment, and the regular peer-review merit advancement process will continue. The adjustment will be effective October 1, 2026, for policy-covered faculty and July 1, 2026, for other policy-covered academic appointees.
For policy-covered staff, the 4% salary increase will be effective July 1, 2026, for monthly paid employees and June 21, 2026, for biweekly paid employees. Salary increases will be paid retroactively to those dates. The salary scales for policy-covered non-faculty academic appointees will be increased by a general range adjustment of 4% on July 1, 2026, for monthly paid appointees and July 5, 2026, for biweekly paid appointees.
This salary program does not apply to employees represented by a collective bargaining unit, whose compensation is governed by their respective collective bargaining agreements.
The work you do on behalf of UCOP and the people of California matters deeply. We are grateful for your dedication and remain committed to investing in the talented individuals who make UCOP thrive.
Sincerely,
James B. Milliken
President
