Join BSFO for a UC-expert-led Oct. 6 conversation on prostate health
The UCOP Black Staff and Faculty Organization (BSFO) invites everyone to its first prostate cancer awareness event, “A Conversation on Prostate Health, Prevention and Wellness.”
Taking place on Tuesday, Oct. 6, from 12 to 1 p.m. (PT) on Zoom, the event is part of BSFO’s Health and Wellness Month series — “Healthy Minds, Healthy Bodies, Strong Communities.” Four UC experts will share insights on prostate health, including factors that shape health outcomes and cancer care.
Featured speakers
- Samuel L. Washington III, M.D., MAS, is an associate professor of urology at UCSF. A urologic oncologist, he studies cancer outcomes and how access to care and other social factors affect them.
- Nynikka Palmer, DrPH, MPH, is an associate professor of medicine at UCSF, where her community-engaged research focuses on improving prostate cancer care, communication and outcomes for people who bear the greatest burden of the disease.
- Peter R. Carroll, M.D., MPH, is a professor of urology at UCSF, where his work focuses on prostate cancer detection and treatment, including active surveillance and quality-of-life outcomes.
- Isla P. Garraway, M.D., Ph.D., is an associate professor of urology and director of research at UCLA. A surgeon and scientist, she studies prostate cancer and early detection, with an interest in disparities in care and outcomes.
The event will include time to ask the panelists questions.
