Meet UCOP’s newest Accessibility Champions
The UCOP IT Accessibility Work Group advocates for accessibility, implements web accessibility standards and provides education and training to UCOP staff. UCOP employees may be nominated as Accessibility Champions by the work group or a colleague for their commitment to making UCOP websites and digital content accessible to people with disabilities.
Radhika Mellin has taken the lead in building her accessibility knowledge and creating how-to guides for the RASC and HR Policy teams she supports. She attends webinars, consults with colleagues and pairs quick action steps with detailed follow-up resources.
Marla Cox has helped update retirement webinar decks for accessibility. She asks detailed questions and reviews each deck to make sure it works for all employees. The nomination also thanks Doug Harriman for sharing his time and expertise on accessibility training resources.
Stephen McNally works on the digital media team, making UC video content accessible. He has developed and shared best practices for audio descriptions and leads a UC-wide group for video producers, helping advance accessible content across the system.
As program and project coordinator for the Outreach and Educational Partnerships unit in Graduate, Undergraduate and Equity Affairs, Melissa Rivas works to make UC’s K–12 program materials accessible. She researches solutions, consults colleagues and uses AI to build her skills and remediate files. Her work spans Word, PowerPoint, PDFs and media.
