Have Something To Say ?

We usually see a movie early in the day (this year the plan is to see “New Moon” – we intend to watch it ironically, though – we may chicken out and see “The Fantastic Mr. Fox” instead), come home and cook and eat a little later than most people do, in the early evening. I always plan to start Christmas decorating on Thanksgiving – at least getting some outside lights up – but more often than not don’t manage it in the bustle of the day.

I’m not a Black Friday person, at all. We’ll sometimes go into the city early on Friday evening to watch the tree lighting at Union Square and do a little shopping, but you’re not going to find me at Best Buy at 4:00 a.m. waiting for the doors to open. No way, no how.

We started a tradition a number of years ago of having Thanksgiving Dinner on Friday. That way I don’t have to take a day off work for preparations and I can invite friends over who have their own family Thanksgiving feasts on Thursday. I have continued my mom’s traditional dinner with a sourdough stuffing recipe that she found in a magazine the year I was born. My daughter now makes the pies-yum and friends bring their own side dishes. It is a great day of family and friends.

Very bad things happen to me on Thanksgiving and the following weekend. My mother died, car accident, bike accident, etc…. So I am trying Las Vegas this year to see if it will be a safe place to be.
