Institutional Research kicks off new speaker series May 16

Join the Office of Institutional Research and Academic Planning (IRAP) for the first in a series of brown bag talks on the future of California’s higher education system when guest speaker Robert Shireman visits UCOP Friday, May 16, 12 to 1 p.m. in 5320 Franklin.

Shireman is executive director of California Competes, a nonprofit organization whose goal is to promote the state’s economic and intellectual leadership by driving improvements in higher education policy and practice. Entitled “What If?” Shiremen’s talk will address three abandoned features of the Master Plan that, if reinstated, could restore the state’s leadership role in higher education.

IRAP, a relatively new department at UCOP, generates information and analysis about the university and external issues to provide stakeholders systemwide with the data they need to manage, plan and make decisions.
“With the explosion of information in educational policy, compliance, demographics, finance and other key areas, IRAP’s role of providing accurate data is becoming critical,” said IRAP Vice President Pamela Brown, who joined UCOP in November 2013. “We help all UC locations make important decisions and advocate for the university’s interests every day.”
Brown said a goal of the series is to foster intellectual exchange and help keep IRAP as well as all OP staff current on issues in the area of higher education policy.
The next event will be Friday, June 13, and feature Nancy Shulock, executive director of the Institute for Higher Education Leadership Policy and California State University professor of Public Policy and Administration. Look for more details on this and other upcoming events in Link.
