PMIG rides the wave of efficiency

Everyone has ideas on how to become more efficient at work, and sometimes those ideas lose traction without appropriate sponsorship. Launched in 2013, the Efficiency Review Initiative supports the UC mission by ensuring UCOP prioritizes its resources and work efficiently and effectively.

Driven by UCOP staff, the initiative has received more than 800 ideas since its inception. Now in year two, the ER workgroup continues to advance its mission. Come to the Project Management Interest Group’s May meeting to learn more from the projects leads, Shirley Bittlingmeier, Dan Scannell and Vini Bhargava, on how the year one work group members organized the initiative, lessons learned and the current progress of the initiative.

About the Efficiency Review

Launched by President Napolitano in January 2013, the Efficiency Review initiative is driven by UCOP staff in support of the UC mission by ensuring that UCOP prioritizes its resources and work efficiently and effectively. The initiative covers all functions performed at UCOP, regardless of reporting lines and funding sources.

The working group solicits ideas and recommendations from staff, and every UCOP employee is strongly encouraged to participate. The goal is to generate a broad range of ideas and perspectives, and employees may submit comments anonymously.

Every idea submitted is reviewed by the working group, which analyzes it for impact, savings, feasibility and how well the idea meets the objectives of the initiative: reduce costs, streamline processes, eliminate duplication, improve customer service, increase transparency and enhance the work environment.
