Friday, Aug. 28: Scripps’ Ramanathan on the war on climate change
V. “Ram” Ramanathan, distinguished professor at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, UC San Diego, will speak at UCOP on Friday, Aug. 28, from noon to 1 p.m., in Franklin Lobby 1.
Ramanathan’s talk, The War on Climate Change: A New Alliance Between Science, Religion and Policy, will cover his recent work in the following areas:
- membership in the Vatican’s Pontifical Academy of Science and role in advising the Church on global climate mitigation
- collaboration with Governor Jerry Brown on a recent summit at the Vatican, and ongoing dialogue about California’s climate mitigation leadership for the planet
- systemwide engagement as the chair and academic director of the upcoming UC Summit on Carbon and Climate Neutrality: California and the World (October 2015), sponsored by President Napolitano’s Carbon Neutrality Initiative
The talk will be moderated by Dr. William Tucker, interim vice president for research at UCOP.
