Celebrate International Women’s Day by honoring the women you know

Did you know that March 8 is International Women’s Day?
Celebrated around the world for over a century, its exact origin is still debated. The commemoration has been closely linked with 19th and 20th century workers’ and women’s rights campaigns, as well as socialist and communist movements. While in some countries, the day is the primary commemoration of women’s contributions to society, here in the U.S., the day has not historically carried the weight or influence of other holidays acknowledging and celebrating women.
International Women’s Day is a time for reflection, action and celebration. We reflect on the progress women have made in the workplace and society while recommitting ourselves to sustained and further action in improving all women’s lives around the world. It’s also a day to celebrate women—ordinary and extraordinary alike—for their accomplishments, contributions and perseverance.
The President’s Advisory Committee on the Status of Women (PACSW) would like to encourage all UCOP community members to take a moment to recognize the women who have positively impacted their lives.
In 2017, PACSW will organize an International Women’s Day event for the entire UCOP community.
