UCOP volunteers help feed the community

On Oct. 30, nineteen staff members from UCOP volunteered at the Alameda County Food Bank.

They helped prepare meals for the community, and sorted and bagged a staggering amount of donated produce:

  • 790 pounds of bell peppers
  • 3,612 pounds of onions
  • 4,030 pounds of potatoes
  • 10,696 pounds of apples
  • 12,088 pounds of pears

“That’s a grand total of 31,216 pounds — the equivalent of over 26,000 meals for our community — all thanks to your hard work,” wrote Tessa Boyce, the Food Bank’s volunteer services associate in an email to the volunteers. “Thank you again for your time, energy and dedication. We run on your support and partnership and simply wouldn’t be able to do our work without you!”

This is the second time the group has volunteered at the Food Bank, and they are planning to help out once per quarter in the future. If you’d like to participate in the next event, please contact Josephine.Meneses@ucop.edu, Arthur.Quilao@ucop.edu, or Marcia.Johnson@ucop.edu.
